Hello unto you.

It’s a cool twilight here in otherwise sunny Southern California as I write this and look forward to turning 38 a bit later today. Mathematical acrobatics show that my 40th birthday falls on Friday the 13th. “You make your own luck,” so the mysterious cabal known as “they” say – and yet, considering the world in upheaval that was this past year for me, there has not been the machine invented that can measure my good fortune throughout. So to speak. To speak plainly: I suspect that today shall be a day filled with good Work, well-wishing and more sips at the endless fount of creativity. The Work proceeds, fraught with illumination and awareness, onwards to the horizon and when I’m suddenly struck with lyrics for Black Love like “You fell off a cliff and died on impact / whatever happens / nobody can take that / away from me,” I remain receptive to the boundless gifts of the cosmos and keep those shoulders moving. In good ways, of course.

“Greetings to all,

I wanted to let you know that there was a meeting with Gary’s sister and his dad, Gary, his case worker and advocate. As I feared his sister Barbara and his dad gave vague responses when asked about Gary returning to California. In the meeting they wouldn’t say Gary couldn’t come back, just “maybe when he’s made more improvements” whatever that means. Barbara also said Gary has lost touch with his friends in California and I am the only person he’s in contact with so there’s not much reason for him to return. In light of this I’ve been told by some people that they hadn’t gotten responses to their emails (Barbara controls them) and so they had stopped sending them. Gary doesn’t have email where he lives but he does have a computer with a printer. I plan on sending him some self-addressed stamped envelopes so he could write me or send me pictures. If any of you would care to do the same his address is:

Gary Sylvester
820 Eickoff Blvd.
Crookston, MN 56716

Sending cards or art and music announcements would be good too. I’ve been speaking to him on a regular basis and no matter what topic I bring up he ALWAYS says he needs to come back to California. Last week he was explaining where Crookston was (west of Minneapolis near the state line) so I could come and get him. Yesterday he was talking about hijacking a car (I couldn’t tell if he meant him or me) so he could get back. I should note that everyone that works with Gary agrees he should return. Since Barbara made herself guardian she has complete control over Gary and has told me and others that his return is “not an option.” There will be another meeting on 9/11 and we’ll see how things progress then.

All the best,
Michael Intriere”

It was released by Etat Brut as “Acier” and by AEON in the U.S. as “Steel”. Acier is the brutal testament of this uncompromising duo of two Brussels based science teachers heavily influenced by the writings of J.G. Ballard.

The present whereabouts of Etat Brut are unknown. 2Tracks/Jerry WX (Jean-Pierre Poirier) died in 2000.”

From: White Fungus

“White Fungus Issue 9 out now in North America – www.whitefungus.com

White Fungus Issue 9 is the second to be distributed in North America by Disticor . The irreverent New Zealand-based arts mag continues in its tradition of mixing together critical writing on art and new music, alongside poetry, literature, comics and political satire. The new issue is teeming with new interdisciplinary content, including in-depth interviews with sound artists Annea Lockwood (New York) and Justice Yeldham (Sydney), writing on The Dead C, John Wiese, Manuel Gottsching, and a look into the visual work of Greg Malcolm. The issue also features new artworks by artists, including Richard Killeen, Hye Rim Lee and Leslie Rice; drawings by Taipei artist Yao Jui-Chung, who revisits traditional Chinese painting while residing in Scotland; and a series of perturbing handwritten suggestions for improvements to the State by Wellington-based conceptual artist Tao Wells.

NoahLiterature in the new issue includes poetry by Iain Britton (Auckland), Gu Xie (Guang Zhou) and Anne Cammon (New York), and a history article by Jane Janesly on the indomitable Chew Chong, an early Chinese pioneer to New Zealand who helped kick-start the colony’s dairy industry with his fungus-exporting business. Los Angeles writer Juan Santos writes a hard-hitting article on global warming and resource wars in the 21st Century while Wellington artist Tim Bollinger contributes a brand new color comic entitled Noah. White Fungus is distributed by Disticor in North America and independently throughout New Zealand, Australia, Europe and Asia.”

“Hello…just a quick note to spread the word about a new collection of some of my older material. Back in the ‘90s I retired my earlier project, Trance, after about 10 years of activity. Thanks to interest from the wonderful Monochrome Vision label in Russia, they have released “Trance: Compiled,” a CD pulling together compilation appearances from 1989-1994. It’s been exciting to remaster these tracks and have them available again, as nearly all have been out of print for many years. See http://www.monochromevision.ru and http://www.charnel.com/mason for more information.
