This set of two cassettes was released in 1986. 19 international bands contributed one “Key” each to form this compilation. Every track was recorded exclusively for this project, and remember that all of the music here was made with real instruments, analog synthesizers and – effects without computers, digital recording, editing and mastering whatsoever.
Our works concerning the 19 Enochian Keys have generated from 19 visual works and a film by AMVK, initially based on the opposition of the 19 Keys versus the films of Alfred Hitchcock, in particular the “39 Steps”. The live calling of the 19 Keys featured as a soundtrack when the film was shown on various occasions. A cassette resulted from the first showing at ProduKtion-HAIR in London in June 1983, and in the meantime the film is also made available on video. Throughout our work and the response of our audiences towards the 19 Keys, we have formed the idea of presenting an ultimate version, based on world-wide approaches. We have asked 19 international bands, whose soundwork we appreciate at most, to call out one Key each, adding to it appropriate sounds in order to obtain the most powerful force each Key possesses. After over a year of intense creation and delicate recording, we are now then proud to offer you the ultimate 19 Enochian Keys…(from the inner cover of Cassette One)
The windows to the fourth dimension are thrown open – and to the frightened, the Gates of Hell. Apocryphal as they have become (and who can tell what grim reality provokes the “fantasy”), the Enochian Keys are the Satanic paeans of faith. Dispensing with such once-pragmatic whitewashing in terms such as “holy” and “angelic”, and arbitrarily chosen groups of numbers, the purpose of which were only to act as substitutes for “blasphemous” words. The magical language used in Satanic rituals is Enochian, a language thought to be older that Sanskrit with a sound grammatical and syntactical basis. The meaning of the words, combined with the quality of the words, unite to create a pattern of sound which can cause tremendous reaction in the atmosphere. The barbaric tonal qualities of this language give it a truly magical effect which cannot be described. We would like to dedicate this work to Anton Szandor LaVey, from whose “Satanic Bible” (Avon Books 1969) the TRUE Enochian Keys are recited. (from the inner cover of Cassette Two)
Some information on the bands (clickable links on the Club Moral Stocklist webpage): DDV is still alive. Coup De Grace played at the In Vitro II event, did a tour with Club Moral as backing band throughout Belgium, Holland and Germany and continues to play and record as Blood Axis. He collaborated with Boyd Rice and lives and works with Annabel Lee. ProduKtion made several films, organised an Australian tour for Club Moral in 1987 and then disappeared out of sight (Paul, where are you?). Vittore Baroni continues to work as a mail artist. Sevenhorns dA Ho! recorded a couple of rare cassettes, played at the In Vitro I series and disappeared out of sight. The Brides of Christ released a number of cassettes on their own label and disappeared out of sight. (Jo) Bogaert became quite successful with his other band Technotronic, Hugo Roelandt made some installations and works as a teacher. FâLX çêrêbRi aka Graf Haufen had a successful distribution company of music and video and is still around in Berlin. 6de Kolonne seem to continue to work and archive their work until today. Pacific 231 continues his music works, now from Ireland. Autopsia published a lot of artwork and several cassettes and disappeared out of sight. Augusto Klamm is probably out there somewhere. Kurt Volentine made some of the greatest cut-up-collage tapes and videos in the pre-digital era and has disappeared out of sight. Gerechtigkeitsliga are still out there in London. Mauthausen Orchestra is still out there somewhere. Lard have published several cassettes and continue te record. Ydde Nesnay is totally out of sight. AR/TE supposedly lives in Berlin. AMVK continues to work. Anton LaVey passed away on 29 October 1997.
A restored version of original artworks by AMVK on the 19 Enochian Keys will be featured in an exhibition at Kunstmuseum Luzern as of 15 August 2008. The Kunstmuseum is organising a large retrospective of AMVK’s drawings and films in co-operation with Wiels in Brussels. The movie “39 Steps vs. 19 Keys” will also be shown in the museum. At the opening night in Luzern there will be a DJ set by none other than Carl Cryplant.

MASTER MUSICIANS OF JOUJOUKA – Brian Jones 40th Anniversary Festival
“To celebrate the 40th Anniversary of Rolling Stones founder Brian Jones’s visit to their village, Morocco’s most renowned Sufi trance Masters, The Master Musicians of Joujouka, are staging a music festival in his honour on 29 July, in Joujouka, Morocco. Joujouka is a tiny village in the southern Rif Mountains of Morocco founded by the 8th century Sufi mystic Sidi Ahmed Scheich. It is famous for its Sufi trance music, its connections with the Beat Generation and the Rolling Stones, and its annual celebration of the God Pan. On 29th July 1968, following in the footsteps of William Burroughs, Robert Palmer and Paul Bowles; Rolling Stones founder Brian Jones and recording engineer George Chkiantz visited Joujouka with Brion Gysin and Mohamed Hamri to record an album with the Master Musicians. Jones spent much of his last year mixing and producing the Joujouka tapes and preparing the cover art. He died on 7 July 1969. The resulting LP “Brian Jones presents the Pipes of Pan at Joujouka” was the first release on Rolling Stones Records in 1971. In Joujouka the villagers still perform the ancient Rites of Pan. A boy sewn in goatskins dances wildly to the music of the Masters. This music and festival is called Boujeloud, or the Father of Skins in Joujouka. It is a fertility rite directly related to the ancient worship of the God Pan. Pan was evoked in the springtime to ensure the fertility of both the crops and the people. The people of Joujouka have kept this ancient tradition alive. The evening and night will be devoted to the healing trance music of Joujouka. There will be a full performance of the Boujeloud Rite in honour of Brian Jones. The Master Musicians of Joujouka 2006 CD Boujeloud features various variations on the ritual music associated with Pan. In his short stay in Joujouka Brian Jones made a big impression on the musicians. To this day the song “Brian Jones Joujouka very Stoned” sung in English and Arabic, is a standard at all ceremonies and celebrations in the village. To commemorate the 40th Anniversary of Brian Jones’s visit to their village the Master Musicians of Joujouka are staging a festival to honour Brian Jones memory and his efforts to raise them and their fathers out of poverty. Guests will be transported to the village from the nearest town Ksar El Kebir. They will stay in the village in traditional Joujouka houses with musicians and their families. In the afternoon there will be a visit to the 8th century sanctuary of Joujouka’s patron saint Sidi Ahmed Schiech and to the cave of Pan/Boujeloud. This is an once-in-a-lifetime chance to experience a day and night in Joujouka as guests of the Master Musicians of Joujouka and their families in their mountain village. Master Musician of Joujouka Ahmed Attar recalls Jones’ visit in 1968 “I was a twelve years old learning drumming with my father and the Mallims (Masters) when Brian Jones came. Brian Jones was very good. My father played rhiata with and for him and I danced and played my drum. He came with Hamri and Brion Gysin. He had long hair and he rubbed my head. He brought a lot to Joujouka. Besef Baraka. We will mark the 40th Anniversary of his visit here in Joujouka to honour Brian Jones and to let people come to Joujouka and see what it is like here for themselves. It is good to feel the Baraka (Blessings) of Sidi Ahmed Scheich. Joujouka is his country. He is the Cultivator with Lions and Healer of Crazy Minds.” Full board will be provided: lunch on arrival on the 29th, a celebratory feast in the evening including charcoal roasted whole sheep and a wide variety of mountain dishes including many vegetarian specialties. Traditional breakfast will be provided on the morning of the 30th. All the dishes will be prepared by the villagers and will be traditional Moroccan fare for a celebratory feast.”

DOUGLAS KEARNEY & ANNE LeBARON – “Sucktion”
“Award-winning composer Anne LeBaron and provocative writer Douglas Kearney present the story of a woman’s cyber-erotic transformation from abject housewife into a self-sufficient cyborg in this theatrical song cycle. Written for the ensemble soNu, Sucktion features a female vocalist supported by percussion, laptop and a musical appliance as it traces the radical reinvention of one woman’s persona via the subversive use of a vacuum cleaner.”

BLASTER AL ACKERMAN – “The Thriftstore Mystery Paintings” (exhibition)
“‘The Thriftstore Mystery Paintings’ is a series in acrylic that decorate the verso of Ackerman’s first spoken-word album, “I Am Drunk”. Working in Mail Art, Poetry, prose and performance, “Blaster” Al Ackerman has been tirelessly active since the early 1970s. Much his writing takes the form of ferocious but deadpan humor executed under a bewildering variety of pseudonyms. The best known examples have been collected in Ackerman’s 4 signature volumes – “Confessions of an American Ling Master” (1984), “The Blaster Omnibus” (1994), “I Taught My Dog to Shoot a Gun” (2000) and “Corn & Smoke” (2006). In 2005, Ackerman’s first spoken-word record (“I Am Drunk”) was recorded by composer Ian Nagoski for Stewart Mostofsky’s EHSE label. A long-time Ackerman fan, Mostofsky then had idea of commissioning the artist to decorate a number of these album covers with original acrylic paintings. The result has been curious: from the start Ackerman has worked like a man possessed on this series, which has become known as The Thriftstore Mystery Paintings. Yet he has also seemingly refused to bring the series to an end, so that even today, three years later, the ever burgeoning flow of paintings continues to multiply and fill the Mostofsky house in a hybrid, a-stylistic fashion. “One can’t feeling a little edgy,” Mostofsky notes. “I mean, Blaster Al keeps turning them out like hotcakes and no end in sight. You have to figure that if this goes on, the paintings may eventually wind up taking over the house completely, and we Mostofsky’s will have to move out in the garage.”

PAUL ZONE – “The New York Underground Scene From Glam to Punk 1972-1977” (photography)
“From from CBGB’s, Max’s Kansas City and the Warhol Factory to Glam Rock and the early Punk scene, this exhibition features larger-than-life legends like The Ramones, New York Dolls, Iggy Pop, Lou Reed, Patti Smith and a very early KISS. Paul Zone has a background that took in all that was cool, all that was cutting edge about New York City in the 1970s. He is New York through and through. His two older brothers started to take him to concerts by the age of 11. He’d always make sure to have his square box Brownie camera with him. He saw Bowie premiere Ziggy Stardust at Carnegie Hall, Iggy Pop & The Stooges at the Electric Circus in 1971, the first ever performances by The New York Dolls at the Mercer Arts Center and was the youngest boy let into the back room of Max’s Kansas City during the tail end of the Warhol Factory era. Zone was friends with members of Blondie and The Ramones before their bands were even formed. By 1973 his brothers already had their own band called The Fast, and Paul, being so young, wasn’t considered to be a member. Paul concentrated on taking photographs of his nights out at concerts, clubs and parties around town. He shot the first photo session of Blondie as a five-piece band, did portraits of friends and worked as a photographer along side Lance Loud on his writing assignments for Circus Magazine, Rock Scene & Andy Warhol’s Interview.”
